Chapter 1: Be your own muse.

When I was younger, I never knew what it meant to “be your own muse.” As I’ve gotten older, I now understand how important this is. Seeking validation and motivation from others is never going to bring you the satisfaction you want or need in life. To know yourself so completely is something very special, but it is also something that not very many people achieve in life.

I have done a lot of things in my 20 years of living, some things I am so proud of, and some things I’m not. Moving 4,500 miles away from my family and everything I’ve ever known at 19 years old helped me gain a perspective on life I never knew I could have. I learned that if I want to have the life I want to live, I need to seek motivation from myself, not from my chosen people.

How do you become your own muse? Pay attention to yourself, to your experiences and to your emotions. Embrace all the things that make you who you are. Feel all the things you need to feel, internalize them. Pay attention to your own experiences (the good and the bad ones). Practice self love, do the things that make you happy.  You never realize how important these small things are until you do everything with intent. Shift your mindset, trust the process, know that who you are meant to be is coming, but you must practice patience. Make yourself the center of your art and be the subject you know best.
